1. Do I need to know anything about art or how to draw before I can
participate in a class with Art Student Academy?
No! We offer classes geared to all abilities. Our Let's Paint art classes are for total, absolute beginners.
Our ART 101, 202 and 303 classes are designed for beginners to advanced.
2. Do we need our own art supplies? In Let's Paint classes, we supply all the
art supplies.
In ART 101, 202 and 303, you bring your art supplies! We have
supply lists that let you know what you need so that you can keep working on your own.
3. Who teaches the classes at Art Student Academy?
M Theresa Brown and Stephen Filarsky, a husband and wife team are the owners and directors of Art Student Academy
as well as full time, award winning, professional artists who create art for a living! Read more about us
here. Occassionally we have guest instructors or a substitute.
4. How many people are in the classes? As a rule, we try to keep our
classes to less than 12 students in order to offer individual instruction. Group events and birthday parties are
the exception.
5. What mediums are offered?
In our Let's Paint classes we paint in acrylic. Our more advanced classes
(ART 101, 202, 303) are offered in mediums such as watercolors, pastels, pencils and oils.
6. What does it cost to participate and how long are the classes?
Our Let's Paint classes are $35.00 per person and are two hours in length. These are often our
popular "art and wine" fun classes. Our other classes vary in price and length. Click on the calendar links
for each class for information.
7. Do you travel to other locations to do workshops?
Yes we travel. We have taken our Art Student Academy classes and workshops on the road as far south as FL and as
far north as Maryland! We routinely travel to locations within 100 miles of our base location. We offer something
exciting and challenging for everyone. Pricing is determined by distance, classes, etc. Contact us for
details!
8. Do you offer the Art and Wine styled parties?
Yes. Our "Let's Paint" classes are perfect BYOB styled classes and we have done many for group parties, private
parties and Ladies Night Out events. We have over a hundred images to choose from for your group to paint. Contact
us for details.
9. Is there a minimum age requirement for your two hour "Let's Paint"
classes?
We offer similar classes for children 5-11. But children 12 and older are welcome to join us in the adult classes
with an adult.
10. How do I reserve a spot in your classes?
It's easy! We have a monthly calendar that you can look at to see what we will be painting, the day and the cost.
Select the painting and day and medium you are interested in and click on the link. You conveniently register and
pay securely online in one swoop!
11. How soon should I arrive for a class?
Arrive 10-15 minutes before class to set up, get situated and meet everyone! We start on time so if you are late
you will have to catch up :-)
12. What is your cancellation policy?
For all regular adult classes we offer a class credit. For groups and parties, we have reserved a full
day for morning or afternoon events. So if a cancellation is made 30 days or more before the scheduled event, we
refund 100% refund of your deposit. If cancellation is 15-29 days before your scheduled event, we
return 50%. No refunds 0- 14 days. However a class credit can be issued for a new date.
13. You have more than one location, how do we know where to
go?
Not to worry! The locations for our art classes is on each listing on our calendar. Most of the classes for Art
Student Academy will be at our main teaching location at the Wake Forest Art and Frame Shop at 139 S. White St. in
historic, downtown Wake Forest. It is perfect for our class size of 12 or less. Since we are working artists
we also have our own large, beautiful artist studio next to our home at 2109 Old Mill Farm Rd, Franklinton, NC. We
hold many of our retreats, art classes and summer camps here.

15. Do you offer Kid's classes and parties?
Absolutely! We have weekly classes to accommodate both home schooled and traditional school aged children 6-10 and
11-17 from Sept-May as well as summer camps and birthday art parties. Complete details here.
16. Can I host a party and pick a specific theme?
Of course! Many of our groups pick a particular image from our
copyrighted selections or come up with an idea of what they'd like to paint.
17. Who paints your original paintings for your "Let's Paint"
classes?
All artwork for Art Student Academy classes is painted by the artist/owners M Theresa Brown or Stephen Filarsky.
They are all copyrighted through the US Copyright Office.
18. What are "Specialty" classes?
These are creative classes that vary in style and techniques from the traditional type classes. We offer many of
them in our Art Journaling and mixed media classes and they cover a wide array of creative styles! These classes
allow for pure art expression and are offered for all of our age groups. Most of these are held at our working
Studio outside of Franklinton-north of Wake Forest.
